Pensioners, Veterans and Dependents
Your patient is eligible to apply for an Hearing Services Voucher which entitles them to a free hearing test if they are an Australian Citizen or permanent resident 21 years or older and they are:
- a Pensioner Concession Card Holder;
- receiving Sickness Allowance from Centrelink (SA denoted on the card);
- the holder of a Gold Repatriation Health Card issued for all conditions;
- the holder of a White Repatriation Health Card issued for conditions that include hearing loss;
- a dependent of a person in one of the above categories;
- a member of the Australian Defence Force; or
- undergoing an Australian Government funded disability management services and they are referred by their disability employment services case manager.
Community Service Obligations (CSO) component of the OHS Program
Your patient may be eligible to receive hearing services through the CSO component of the OHS Program if they are an Australian citizen or permanent resident and they are:
- younger than 21 years, or
- a participant in a Community Development Employment Projects Program, or
- an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who is over 50 years.
If they are aged between 21 and 25 (inclusive) and not in any of the above categories they may be eligible for hearing services through the CSO component of the Program. Please visit the OHS web site for further details.
Health Fund Eligibility
Private Health Funds vary in terms of the rebates available for hearing aids, assessment and maintenance services. Rebates are only available for specific health fund tables and limitations apply. Ace Audiology is happy to assist clients determine their individual eligibility with their health fund.
Tax rebates are available for health related expenditure in excess of the Tax Office nominated threshold that varies annually.
Brief Overview of ACE Audiology

Private Hearing Assessment Referrals
Medicare does not fund private hearing assessments however some private health funds may do so depending on the level of cover of their member. Patients are advised to check directly with their health fund prior to attendance.
ACE Audiology provides full diagnostic hearing services for private referrals for both paediatric and adult populations. We are equipped to assess children from infancy with objective and behavioural measures.
ENT and Neurology Referrals
Medicare rebates exist for referrals to Audiologists by ENT and Neurologists. The referring specialist must specify the particular tests required in the initial referral letter. The following referral form pdf download provides details of the eligible claim items and their descriptions.
General Practitioner Enhanced Primary Care Referrals
Medicare rebates exist for Enhanced Primary Care referrals from GP’s as part of a Care Plan. A specific form is provided by Medicare to make these referrals.
Office of Hearing Services Referrals
You may refer eligible pensioners and veterans to Office of Hearing Services accredited providers by letter. The accredited provider can then raise a hearing services voucher instantly via the OHS portal. Your letter must state that, “no contraindications to aidingexist”, or words to that effect.
